Have you ever asked yourself why you choose the things you choose and make the decisions you make? Why you say "yes" to some things and "no" to others? And why should you care about that?
Get to know your own core values!
You largely determine what you value most in life. In their simplest form, core values are words like "confidence", "strength", "honesty" or "passion". They are full of personal meanings and emotions based on your life path and past experiences.
You may have a different understanding of "confidence" than Sally from across the street. "Honesty" may be the foundation of your relationships, but for Peter from Sales, "honesty" is not even in the top 5. Everyone has their own unique core values. Everyone lives by their core values - whether they are aware of them or not.
When we become aware of these values, we can actively incorporate them into our daily decisions and behaviours. This leads to a simpler, but also richer experience of what life has to offer.
Why should these be important to you?
When we are clear about what we value, we know what is important to us - and what is not. In a nutshell: we know what we want. We behave in ways that are consistent with these values. This leads to greater focus, productivity and flow, and reduces distractions, stress and drama, which usually leads to greater overall fulfilment and meaning in life.
Awareness of your own core values also leads to a much more efficient decision-making process, as anything unimportant can be discarded immediately. So you won't spend head space and energy deciding whether or not to engage with what is being offered to you. You will have clarity about what to pursue and what to set aside.
How can you find out your own values?
- First step: get a list of core values, for example from here: https://corevalueslist.com/
- Second step: Go through them relatively quickly and make a selection of the words that appeal to you. The important thing here is that you don't actively think about why a particular word appeals to you. You only choose according to your feelings.
- Third step: Repeat the previous step as many times as necessary to reduce the list to about 30 words.
- Fourth step: Register for the VIABZ Core Values webinar, or contact MINDFUCK and Life Coach Christof Zellweger directly at connect@zellwegerlifecoaching.com
